UPDATE FOR APRIL 2008

Dear POAC Members,

There have been some very positive recent developments. Mt Stromlo has made a decision to re-establish its public outreach program, and it sees the relocation of the CSDO equipment as the first step in a very impressive longer-term vision to have a world-class outreach facility on the mountain.

Negotiations are now underway for the Tradies Club to release the equipment, and we expect to hear back from them soon. At present, there is no indication as to whether or not the club will agree to this proposal. If agreed, Stromlo will develop a plan, which will then serve as a basis for the relocation project.

Stromlo have made it clear from the outset that they have very little in the way of funding to allow this to happen, so it will be up to us (POAC and Stromlo) to secure sufficient funds to allow the relocation to occur. We've already had discussions with the ACT Government, Questacon and the Japanese government to investigate sources of funding, and the possibility of corporate sponsorship is also being pursued. We'll be meeting with the Federal government soon to investigate the availability of Commonwealth grants, and to ensure the project receives the level of visibility it deserves, while at the same time maximising the potential for community, government and corporate support.

Exciting times are ahead, and we need your support to make sure we can achieve our aim. We'll let members know as things unfold.
